The Industry
2008 was a big year for booze in the state of Washington. A new law opened the door for craft distillers, much like craft brewers. Spokane’s Dry Fly became the first full service distillery since the days of Prohibition…and the industry has been growing ever since.
Today in Washington alone, there are about 40 craft distilleries. Oregon has about 36, Idaho and California have a few as well. The industry is on the move, producing inebriates that aren’t just the base of your favorite cocktails…these are good enough to stand alone.
The Show
Here at Northwest Liquor Night, we know you appreciate great Vodka, Whiskey (or Whisky for the traditionalists), Rum, Gin, Tequila, Brandy, and Cordials/Liqueurs…and we know you’d love to support your local distillers. So, much like it’s sibling projects Northwest Wine Night and Northwest Beer Night, every episode of Northwest Liquor Night will introduce you to the distilled spirits made in the Pacific Northwest.
On each 13 minute web episode, our panel of familiar faces will taste one type of liquor by two different makers. They’ll taste a shot of it, talk about what they like, then they’ll pick their favorite. In the second half of the show, we bring these same liquors back, only mixed as a cocktail. Our panelists taste both, and pick the liquor they think makes the best mixed drink. Sometimes they choose the same product, sometimes not. At the end of every episode, you know what the panel thinks about the booze tasted straight out of the bottle AND mixed as a cocktail.
Remember, the point of Northwest Liquor Night is to have you want to go and taste all the products yourself…we just use the panelist’s picks as a guide to help you pick the one you want to taste first.
And that’s it. We’re not here to sell booze, and we certainly want you to drink responsibly. Our mission is that if you do drink, we want you to imbibe locally. There’s so much great liquor being made right here, and we’re going to help you find it.
