"The Lounge Podcast" COMING SOON

Category Archives: Liqueurs

Season 1 Episode 8

It’s one of the tougher categories we attempt to tackle here on Northwest Liquor Night, but it’s also one of the most delicious.  There are so many fantastic Liqueurs and Cordials being produced locally, and we have a couple of them on tonight’s show.

We’ll taste two delicious Washington liqueurs first as a straight shot.  Then with the same liquor, we’ll taste it mixed as a cocktail…giving you two different perspectives.  In Episode 8, we’re tasting:

Rhubarb Cordial - Stein Distillery, Joseph OR

Calisaya - Elixir, Eugene OR

You’re one-up on the panelists:  All they know is that they’re liqueurs.  They won’t know the names or brands until after they’ve talked about them and picked a favorite as a straight-shot and a favorite as a cocktail.

In Episode 8, host Brian Calvert is joined by panelists Marina Rockinger of Star 101.5, Seth Wayne and Denise Whitaker of KOMO 4 News, and Nick Eaton from the SeattlePI.com.

We filmed this episode inside Captive Spirits in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.  This is a small distiller that specializes in gin, and it was really great to meet the crew.  And Holly, the food was outstanding!

Thanks for watching Northwest Liquor Night and for sharing the show with your friends.  New episodes are released here on the website every other Friday at 11am: Our next new episode premieres Friday, April 5th.

Season 1 Episode 3

How is the holiday season treating you so far?  We enjoyed more yuletide cheer in Episode 4 in the form of Liqueurs.  This is an interesting category, because liqueurs and cordials can be sweet or not sweet, and the flavor is VERY varied.  Liqueurs tasted in Episode 4 came from:

Clear Creek Distillery, Portland OR
San Juan Island Distillery, Friday Harbor WA
Stein Distillery, Joseph WA

You’re one-up on our panelists.  After all, they have know idea who made these liquors until after they pick a favorite and we make the big reveal.

Host Brian Calvert is joined by Kristin Ackerman, publisher of SIP Northwest Magazine, Marina Rockinger, whom you’ve seen on both Northwest Wine Night and Northwest Beer Night, and Jane Shannon and Denise Whitaker from KOMO.

This episode was taped at Local 360, a very cool restaurant in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood that is a huge supporter of local distillers, vintners, and craft brewers.

Thanks for your support, and be sure to share Northwest Liquor Night with your friends. Watch new episodes every other Friday at http://www.NorthwestLiquorNight.com.

Have a Merry Christmas!  Because of the holiday, our next new episode premieres on our website Friday, January 4th.

Pilot Episode 3

We’ve tasted Gin and Vodka, now we’re moving on to a specialty area. They’re created very differently, but in the end, these all fit into the category Liqueurs. For Episode 3, we return to Washington’s first legal distillery to taste some great, locally created liqueurs!

Just in time to herald privatization of liquor sales in Washington, we present Northwest Liquor Night. Watch new episodes every other week, as we introduce you to the distilled spirits being created in not only Washington, but Idaho, Oregon, and northern California as well. Much like it’s sibling projects, each episode of Northwest Liquor Night will introduce you to locally made adult beverages. Our panelists will taste each product, talk about it, then recommend their favorite.

We are once again at Dry Fly Distilling in Spokane for Episode 3. Host Brian Calvert is joined by Marina Rockinger of Northwest Wine Night, Aaron Luna of KXLY, Dry Fly owner Don Poffenroth, and former TV newscaster Lucinda Kay.

(SPOILER ALERT:  Scroll down any further, and the names of this episode’s liquors will be revealed.  Most fans don’t want this info until AFTER they watch the show.  You can always return here after the show to get the scoop on the booze.)

This Episode’s Booze:

Liqueur 1 Oregon Cranberry Liqueur Clear Creek Distillery – Portland OR
Liqueur 3 Douglas Fir Liqueur Brovo Spirits– Seattle WA
